Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, full of history and family, lies Altamont Farm. Here, our purebred Black Angus cows roam free on lands once surveyed by a young George Washington. While the land is old, our farm is new. We started Altamont Cattle Company in 2015 to create a legacy for our family and our farm: only the best bred, best tasting, Angus beef.
At Altamont, we do things the old fashioned way - organically and sustainably. Our registered Angus cows are 100% all natural, with no hormones or unnecessary antibiotics because we believe the best beef comes from the best cows, not the best chemicals. That’s why we only farm American Black Angus cows specifically bred to attain the highest possible quality for marbling and flavor. In this way, by blending old farming techniques with cutting edge breeding, we believe we’ve created a product that can stand the test of time - and begin our legacy.
We grow our herd based on science-backed EPDs (Expected Progeny Difference). EPDs are a way to compare the most prestigious Angus cattle and predict the quality of their future offspring.
We focus our herd on categories of Marbling, Ribeye Area, Tenderness and Hanging Carcass Weight. We test both EPDs and the actual offspring to ensure a guaranteed level of quality in our beef.
On a scale of 1-10 for each category, our cows score above average compared to the Angus breed as a whole, scoring 6-10 in each of these focused areas.
